BTS Imagery of drone filming
Drone Filming of Motorsport and especially Rally cars is Eastwood Media’s area of expertise.
We have been lucky enough to work for WRC TV on the World Rally Championship having been hired by DJI the manufacturer of our drone filming equipment and sponsor of the championship.
Working for the WRC is both a privilege and a massive challenge. Early starts, intense drone filming and adverse weather make this gig tough. We’re allocated locations on stages by WRC TV based on where other cameras are being set up. When we arrive at one of the drone filming locations we have to decide on the shots that we think will work and practice them on the slow moving course and zero cars. Due to the way the WRC is run, the most important cars for us to get aerial imagery of are the first into the stage. Therefore the tightest, fastest and closest shots we need to film are the ones we’re least prepared for. After a stage is complete we hand our drone filming footage to a waiting courier who runs it back to the WRC TV outside broadcast unit. Then we head to the next stage and wait to see what of our aerial imagery has made it into the various highlights packages beamed out across the world.
After a day of stages and an evening special stage, we head back to the hotel to prep our equipment and a get a couple of hours sleep before tomorrows dawn stage.
